1. The UAE Lowered the Legal Age of Adulthood from 21 to 18

Effective June 1, 2026. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025, the UAE has formally lowered its legal age of adulthood from 21 to 18 Gregorian years — replacing a four-decade-old civil code and aligning the UAE with prevailing international legal standards.

In practical terms: an 18-year-old can now independently register a UAE company, sign commercial contracts, manage inherited assets, and participate in civil litigation — without parental or guardian involvement. The age at which a minor can seek court authorisation to manage their financial assets has also dropped, from 18 lunar years to 15 Gregorian years.

2. Dubai Scrapped the Minimum Property Value for Solo Investor Visas

In a significant policy update registered by the Dubai Land Department, Dubai has removed the minimum property value threshold for sole property owners applying for an investor residency visa. Previously, a defined value floor applied. Under the new rules, a solo buyer can qualify for an investor visa regardless of purchase price — provided the property is completed and registered in a freehold zone.

For joint ownership, a new floor has been formally set: each co-owner must hold a share valued at a minimum of Dh400,000. This closes a previous grey area around nominal co-ownership stakes.

A new Dubai parking system now allows motorists to save up to 80% on school zone parking fees. The change applies to designated school entrance areas and is designed to reduce congestion and encourage compliant short-stay parking during drop-off and pick-up periods.

The UAE Islamic New Year public holiday falls in mid-June 2026. The UAE has officially declared Monday June 15 as the public holiday for both public and private sector workers — creating a Saturday-to-Monday three-day weekend for most employees in the UAE.

Under the UAE Cabinet's holiday transfer rule — introduced in 2025 — public holidays falling mid-week can be shifted to the start or end of the working week. This holiday has been moved to Monday June 15, regardless of the precise moon sighting date for Muharram 1.
